USES/SOURCES: In stainless & alloy steels; tanning agents, pigments electro plating & corrosion resistant products.
TOXICOLOGY: The water soluble hexavalent chromium compounds, such as chromic acid mist and certain chromate dust are severe irritants of the lungs, skin, larynx and nasopharynx. Exposure appears to be related to increased risk of lung cancer. May also be responsible for such effects as perforated ear drums, asthma, kidney damage and ulcerated nasal mucosae.
