Dust Monitors

All respirated dusts are considered harmful to some degree – even if there is only a slight danger to the lungs, some adverse affects to the respiratory system (particularly to asthmatics and allergy sufferers) is likely.

Respirable particles can consist of contaminants such dusts, exhausts from engines, tobacco smoke and mists; many of these particles are a threat to the health of humans. AES can help you to monitor such particles using our dust monitoring equipment.

Dust particles ranging from 0.001 to 0.1mm in size pose a threat to our health when they are airborne. The most harmful dust is particles that are smaller than 0.005 mm in size – as these particles are not visible to the naked eye, just because you cannot see the dust doesn’t mean that you are safe. Problems caused by dust exposure include:

  • They can reduce visibility;
  • They can create an uncomfortable environment (irritation of the eyes, ears, nose, throat and skin);
  • They can possibility result in damage to lung tissue.

Potentially harmful dusts (and the ones that dust monitors measure) include: silica, asbestos, sugar cane fibre, carborundum, diatomite, talc and cotton dust.

AES supplies a variety of hand-held and portable dust monitoring instruments, ensuring that the specific needs of your workplace and application are met with ease. Contact us for more information on our dust meters or if you require assistance with your selection.
