Hand Arm Vibration

Generally speaking, hand arm vibration is the most common type of vibration that a worker may be exposed to and it is caused by long term exposure to hand held tools and equipment (such as chainsaws, grinders and so on).

AES supplies quality hand arm vibration monitoring products from Cirrus Research, notably the REVO HAV. Please contact us for more information or if you are unsure whether this type of product is for you.

Workers can be exposed to hand vibration in many different industries, including: manufacturing, mining, agriculture, trades and construction. This costs businesses millions in workers’ compensation payouts not to mention that the effects of vibration in the workplace can be permanently disabling (such as white finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, sensory nerve damage, muscle and joint damage, and occupational overuse syndrome).

Hand arm vibration meters can help to prevent many of these health issues from developing.

On the 8th of October 2015, Safe Work Australia released some guidance material and an information sheet on workplace vibration. There are 2 guides to be aware of here:

  • Measuring and Assessing workplace exposure to hand-arm vibration
  • Managing the risks of exposure to hand-arm vibration in the workplace

More information on these guides can be found by visiting the website (www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au).
